Happy Thanksgiving! We have much to be thankful for. Yet our gratitude is often overshadowed by our desire to get the next best thing. While we can see this really all the time, it becomes clearly apparent at Christmas. Sadly, the season of Christmas has become all about consumerism and consumption. Today we look at the next phrase in our current series “Four Phrases That Could Change Your Christmas.” That phrase is “Spend Less.” There is a need to take to heart Jesus’ words recorded in Matthew 6: 19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:19-21 NIV). So, that really is the question that we must first answer … Where is our heart? Note: In addition to the Bible, one resource we will be using regularly, including the source of the four phrases comes from “The Advent Conspiracy” and is used with permission.
